the book seems like a self help

I bought it for a intro to acting class at Long Beach State, the book seems like a self help, confidence booster textbook, we didn't really use it much for the class. I don't know if it really will help any acting students who are beginning their acting studies, the book doesn't really have any good acting methods or instructions, or even guidance. Like I have said it just a make you feel good, confidence booster. But then again I have to also clarify that I took the class for GE, so maybe some actual acting students/ majors can write a better review from their perspective.

Better than the first book 4 stars

I didn't love this book but I didn't hate it either like some of the other reviewers. The beginning does seem like a spin of of Twilight,I'm not gonna lie but that was were the similarities ended. The vampires can go out in the sun and no they don't sparkle when they do.

Kira is what is called a Conduit which means that she harnesses sunlight and can kill vampires with it. Two things though, one she doesn't know it and two she isn't just any Conduit, she's like a super Conduit. She's a cross between the two different kinds and has powers like no other.

Kira's father has lost his job so so she had to drop out of the boarding school in New York that she attended and finish out school in Charleston. Now she's a senior among a whole school of kids that have known each other for most of their lives. She meets Luke on her first day and they become instant friends. He introduces to his other four friends and they welcome her into their group.

The first time that she sees Tristan and his group she knows that they are different but she can't figure out why and she is instantly intrigued with him. She can't stop thinking about him even though Luke tells her that she needs to stay far away from him and his friends.

This book is full of surprises and like I said, other then the school lunch thing, really nothing like Twilight. I will read the second book which is apparently already out because I have to find out what happens. This one doesn't really end on a cliffhanger because there is an epilogue but it does leave you with wanting to now more.

Not a "cannot put it down" read, but decent enough.

Overall, I like the series and the characters. It is somewhat predictable, with only a few twists here and there, and moves at a reasonable pace. The one thing that my anal mind kept dwelling on:

SPOILER ALERT

At the end of Ignite, the reason Diana was able to attach Kira was because of the Solar eclipse, when the moon was blocking the sun for a period of time. However, in Simmer, it is cleary shown that Kira can wield her powers at night - i.e. when there is no direct sunlight. During a solar eclipse, the earth continues to receive roughly 92% of the sunlight it receives without an eclipse - so how / why is a solar eclipse a problem and nighttime is not?

Can't wait for the last one to come out its a great series! It is something a little different than the regular sexy vampire books! Keeps you hooked!I was very happy with the purchase of this book. It was a very good read; it kept me on my toes and wanting more. There was a lot of action that made me not want to put the book down. The characters and plot were very well developed right from the beginning chapter and it made my imagination run wild throughout the entire story. The steamy intimate scenes were very well played out and did not leave me hanging or missing in any way. The length of the book was appropriate and it did not feel as though it was rushed or cut off at the end of the story. There were many surprises that I liked so that the book was not predictable so that I did not get bored. I was introduced to many different aspects of intimacy and surprisingly I really liked it and wasn't scared away from it. By the end of the book I was really attached to the characters and wanted them to continue like a life movie. I think that this book would make a really good movie. This author really knows how to draw you in and not want to put the book down at all. I read it very fast because of it, but in a good way. I can't wait to read another book from this author, definitely saved as my favorite author on Amazon so it will notify me when more books come out.

Top Ten Books on Composition

This book is a must read not only for students of Cezanne and Cubism, but for anyone who would like to understand how a composition is put together. By comparing photographs of subjects painted by Cezanne, to the paintings created, one can see what interested the master in his own work. Cezanne's classic remark about Monet ("He is only an eye. But what an eye!")is clearly relevant here: Cezanne is not only an eye function, but a meditation on the process of visual construction per se. A stimulating and important book.

Brilliant explanation of space & planes.

Pages 17 to 24 are a so called "Illustrated Glossary" and are worth buying the book for. The classic rules of space and depth and planes are explained in most of their complexity. Then he discusses many many examples of Cezanne's work and how they use the principles of space, planes, and depth. A masterpiece and extensive in its scope. If you really want this type of abstract picture understanding you will not be disappointed. Very highly recommended.

Interesting analysis

Many of C�zanne's paintings are essentially composed of flat, homogenous planes. He has no interest in textures and takes great freedom in choosing colours and distributing them patchwise. He also disregards proportions and perspective, making receding objects such as roads, mountains and hills stand up straight, so to speak, to the picture plane. Thus each plane in the painting "remains comparatively flat and parallel to the picture plane", but still the painting has a definite feeling of depth because of "the three-dimensional effect that a sequence of the same planes creates through overlapping" (plate XIII). "C�zanne's genius in organizing three-dimensional space is the basic foundation of his composition" and doing so by the plane colour patch approach agrees with the principle that a painting "must remain faithful to its own structure, to its fundamental two dimensions" (section XV). The organisation of space is achieved by the "tension" or "movement" created where planes overlap, and this is Loran's main framework for analysing C�zanne's paintings. With some imagination and many useful geometrical diagrams we can sum up the effects of the overlaps to a general movement; usually some sort of circular movement, always staying within the picture frame. Loran is very faithful to this point of view, even blaming C�zanne when it doesn't apply. In his analysis of a Sainte Victoire painting (plate X) he finds such a circular movement and concludes: "It is this circular movement that gives the painting it ultimate 'closed' effect. Actually, this canvas has many elements of open form ... personally, I find these latter elements insufficiently resolved and somewhat disturbing." Besides this analytic framework, Loran also makes more traditional analyses in terms of balance, dynamics, etc., and he also spends far too much time nagging about two pet topics: C�zanne's famous colour modulations are in fact of incidental importance and C�zanne anticipated Picasso and Braque.

The collection asks how faculty, courses, and programs have responded and adapted to changes in students' needs and abilities, to economic constraints, to new course management systems, and to Web 2.0 technologies such as social networking, virtual worlds, and mobile communication devices. Addressing these questions, Online Education 2.0 includes contributing voices from a wide variety of post-secondary institutions from large state universities and from private and for-profit universities; from urban and rural institutions; and from technological and career colleges. Several chapters address the challenges of sustaining online programs, achieving consistency between courses, and training new faculty in the face of high personnel turnover, changing technology, and cutbacks in funding. Other chapters discuss such topics as multimodal course material design; library services for online students; issues of privacy and intellectual property; and strategies for creating and maintaining online communities of practice. This edited collection explores the current state of higher education online (distance) technical communication instruction. Chapters examine how instructors and program administrators have innovated computer-assisted internet instruction to respond to changing post-secondary student needs and abilities, economic constraints, and new technologies. Intended Audience: A variety of scholarly audiences, including instructors and graduate students interested in teaching online from a distance. About the Author
Kelli Cargile Cook (PhD, Texas Tech, 2000) is an Associate Professor of Technical Communication and Rhetoric at Texas Tech University. She has taught online undergraduate and graduate technical courses for Texas Tech and Utah State University. She co-edited, with Keith Grant-Davie, Online Education: Global Questions, Local Answers (Baywood, 2005), and recently co-authored, with Thomas Pearsall, The Elements of Technical Writing (2009). In addition to her research in online education and training, she also studies technical communication pedagogy, program development, and program assessment. Dr. Cook is an editorial reviewer for Technical Communication Quarterly, Journal of Business and Professional Communication, Programmatic Perspectives,and Rhetoric, Professional Communication, and Globalization. She is a past president of the Association of Teachers of Technical Writing and of the Council for Programs in Technical, Scientific, and Professional Communication. Keith Grant-Davie (PhD, University of California, San Diego, 1985) is an Associate Professor in the English Department at Utah State University. From 1999 to 2011 he was the department's Director of Graduate Studies. This position gave him a central role in the development of USU's online master's program in Technical Writing, which began offering online classes in 1996. In addition to helping administer the program, he has taught online classes and has been the adviser to all the online students who have passed through the program. He co-edited, with Kelli Cargile Cook, Online Education: Global Questions, Local Answers (Baywood, 2005). Besides online education, his scholarly and teaching interests are in rhetorical theory. His work has appeared in JAC: A Journal of Composition Theory, Rhetoric Review, The Journal of Technical Writing and Communication, and Computers and Composition.

On Thin Ice

I watched a YouTube video a while back about Robert Hansen, and it seemed that the story was so twisted it couldn't be real. I am going to see "The Frozen Ground," an upcoming film later this summer with Nicholas Cage and John Cusack about the same subject matter. So I decided to download this book and read it since it should have given more background information about Robert Hansen. (I am a pretty big fan of Mr. Cusack's, he's done some very nice work in his career -- watch "High Infidelity" or "Gross Pointe Blank" if you disagree with me -- and so I'm guessing that the film might be really good.)

"Hunted on Ice" was cheap, so it didn't bother me that no one had reviewed it previously. I'll admit, I didn't notice that the book is only 40-50 pages; if I had I probably would have passed. But just because a book is short doesn't mean that it has no value. I read a book entitled, "Finding Karla" a while back, and even though it was about the same length, it was a mildly interesting read while this one was fairly blah. But the real issue with this book: I learned almost nothing new about the case while reading that I didn't already know, and the documentary was surely better.

And the writing is surely amateurish; single quotes are used where there should be double quotes, periods and commas are outside of quotation marks, etc. The editing is pretty terrible; from what I remember, there was a sentence where "delegated" was used when I believe that the author intended "relegated." Many other issues existed, too numerous to discuss.

Peeking at the Bibliography, I believe that the author got all the information from the web, which means that you could do the same. And that would be my recommendation, or lack thereof; read what's available on the web and pass on this book.

After watching frozen ground I was looking for a more in depth account of the true story of Robert Hansen. This book was not it. The book is extremely short and lacks detail. It seemed more opinionated than story telling

Short book summarizing the horrific acts of serial killer Robert Hansen. Interesting read, lacks detail. Would have liked to hear about interviews from those who knew this monster, and more of the legal proceedings.
